Usage of Coppermine Photo Gallery 1.4.2

In this manual we refer to English links and buttons. For better ease of use, leave the template as is and leave the language set to English.

Step 1 Preparing your images and optionally, songs

- Sort out your images and categorize them in albums
- Use your favorite image editor (like Photoshop) to make you images to maximum size you might want to use them on your web site.

Step 2 Create albums in Coppermine

- In Coppermine: click the grey button [Albums]
- Select category: * No category *
- Click [New] and in the single line input field that states "New album", fill in the name you want your album to have. In SSP terms, this is the "title" of the album. But you can change this later.
- Repeat this step for all albums you want to add.

Step 3 Make the filestructure and upload your images

- Connect through FTP to your webserver and go to: www.yourdomain.com/coppermine/albums/
- In that folder, make a subfolder for each album you want to have. Name them whatever you want. In our example we will use the names "album1" and "album2".
- Upload all pictures into the right subfolder.

Step 4 Adding your images to Coppermine

- If not already, log in with the administrator user and password into Coppermine by clicking the Login link
- Click [Batch add files]
- Select your first folder (in this example: album1)
- Right below "please select a directory" you see the path to the folder you just selected. Right of that, click the [OK] button
- Check the images you want to add. (Basically all but skip stuff added by your operating system like .DS_Store, Thumbs, etc. Just only add the files you uploaded through FTP that end on.jpg)
- Select the album you want to put the selected pitures into
- On the bottom of this - possible very long - page, click [Insert selected files]

- repeat this step for every album you created

Step 5 Refine your work

- Click the link "Home"; you see all albums you made with 3 buttons:
[Delete] [Properties] [Edit files]

[Delete] deletes the album. You probably don't want to do that now.

[Properties] Here you can set the Title, Description and Thumbnail of your album(s). These settings are used by SSP. (See page 38 of the SSP manual)

[Edit Files] This button shows all images of the album. The options per image:

ALBUM: with this popup list, you change the album this image belongs to. You probably don't want to change this.
TITLE: This is what shows in SSP as "title" for the picture. (See page 26 of the SSP manual)
DESCRIPTION: This is what shows in SSP as "caption" for the picture. (See page 26 of the SSP manual)
KEYWORDS: Whatever you want. Not used by SSP.
(SSP) Link: If you fill in a link like http://www.apple.com, in your SSP, that's where you go when you click on the pic. For SSP this is the "link" feature is described on page 27 in the manual.
(SSP) Target: type "self" or "blank": if you filled in a link URL above, this decides if that link will be opened in the same page (self) or in a new window (blank).
(SSP) Pause in secs: this overrules the pause time as set in the component settings in Flash. (See page 42 of the SSP manual)
The button "Make this my icon" sets this image to the thumbnail of the album. (Used by SSP)

- On the bottom of the page, click [Apply modifications]

- Repeat Step 6 for every album you put.

Step 6 Add sound

Due to the limit of attributes we can give to Albums, we made a workaround for adding an mp3 file to an album. To add a song:

- Create a folder for uploading all your songs
- Prepare your songs by making them as small as possible mp3 files
- Name your songs like: "[Artist - Song].mp3". Only files ending on '.mp3' show in the songs list
